When my uncle Ernie was in the army he had boot camp at Ft.
Leonard Wood. It was finally his graduation and the family went up it was me,
my Nana, my Uncle Gary, my Mother, my Uncles Ernie’s dad, and my Uncles friend
Travis, it was kind of like a little road trip. It doesn’t help that we kind of
had to drive through a blizzard and on our way there saw semis tipped over,
which a tab bit intimidating. But we kept on trucking through the snow, which
felt like forever when you’re listening to music from the 60’s. We made it where
we were only 30 minutes away from his base so we just ended up getting a hotel.
My Uncle Gary was sick so he cried the entire time; he was probably 16 so he
was super dramatic. He had a cold and one of our best pictures of him we have
of him is him lying on the hotel bed and his foot is sticking up in the air and
he has a piece of toilet paper stuck inside of his nose, and he looks
miserable. That is one picture we always talk about. The next day we went
around to a shopping mall to get my Uncle Ernie some snack food for when he got
out. My Uncles Gary started feeling a little better and there was an ice-scrapper
laying on the ground in the backseat, he thought it would be a great plan if he
started brushing my nana’s hair with it, which was not a good idea. When she found
out she flipped and we will never forget that either! It was time to leave and
go see my Uncle, his friend road in the back because he had cerebral palsy and
it was lower and easier for him to get in, well my Uncles dad started taking
off before he was even in, leaving his leg dragging on the pavement. It was hysterical
because my Uncles Dad made it out to be Travis’s fault. We bring this trip up
at almost every event!
